One Saturday night, I had an idea for a children's book:
Nightmares Are REAL!
Since it was a Bank Holiday, I thought it might be fun to just plow through the whole project while the idea was fresh. Using one of my preferred techniques - super scribbly ink lines, with a grey overlaid ink wash. I wanted to portray the dark world of lying awake at night as a child, with extreme angles and a lot of shadow.
Starting with the text, I made a simple storyboard of the pages, then pencil drawings, and inking on top of those. As I can't resist the idea of scribbly monster eyes on pillows and rugs, I've also popped the designs onto Society6. By Monday morning, it was ready.
